Nothing But The News
The one thing we do at Pitriff that we feel separates us from everyone else is the fact that we try to give you only legitimate heavy metal and hard rock stories, without all the fluff.  Where almost every other site fills up with interviews that say nothing, Pitriff sticks to actual news stories.  Our interview stories are limited, and random footage of performances is eliminated.  You can come here, find out what’s really happening, and get on with your day!  It’s that simple!
Shop In The Pitriff Store
One of the great new features of Pitriff is our brand new Pitriff Store!  Powered by Amazon, we've done away with all the riff raff that normally pollutes online shopping and left only what you want to purchase - hard rock and heavy metal!  In the Pitriff Store, there's nothing but hard rock and heavy metal cds and mp3s; broken down by metal subgenre so you don't have to search to hard to find anything.  Go to the Pitriff Store today and pick up that brand new release while you read about it in the news!
Honest Reviews You Can Believe
Unlike so many other sites out there, Pitriff goes out of our way to write CD reviews that are real.  We do not allow our reviews to be influenced by record companies or by the bands who have submitted their music for review.  Simply put, all we have in the world is our integrity so we aren’t going to sacrifice that.  When you read our reviews, you will always know that the reviewer said what they truly felt, and you can assess for yourself if you want to believe what they are saying.

Behemoth Frontman In Good Spirits After 1st Round Of Chemo

Adam "Nergal" Darski, the 33-year-old guitarist/vocalist from BEHEMOTH, has finished the first round of chemotherapy after being diagnosed with a life-threatening form of leukemia and is "in great spirits," according to LAMB OF GOD frontman Randy Blythe who spoke with the Polish musician last night (Wednesday, August 25). Blythe added in a Twitter posting that Nergal is "just recovering."

As previously reported, Darski is currently receiving treatment at the hematology division of the Gdansk Medical University Hospital and is in urgent need of a bone-marrow transplant. (A bone-marrow transplant is when special cells [called stem cells] that are normally found in the bone marrow are taken out, filtered, and given back either to the same person or to another person.)

Every year, more than 10,000 people in the United States are diagnosed with leukemia or lymphoma, and a bone-marrow transplant from an unrelated person is their best or only hope for survival. There is no data available on how many people die waiting for a match, but only four out of 10 patients receive the needed transplant.

To learn more about how you can register to donate marrow, go to www.marrow.org.

Darski's fiancée, 26-year-old Polish pop singer Doda (real name: Dorota Rabczewska), has reportedly already donated her bone marrow but her tissue type is not believed to be a close enough match.

As a result of Darski's illness, all of the band's previously announced shows — including those in Russia and the Baltic states in September/October and the U.S. tour with WATAIN in November — have been cancelled.

Austria's Stormbringer.at webzine conducted an interview with Darski when BEHEMOTH played this year's Masters Of Rock festival, which was held July 15-18, 2010 in Vizovice, Czech Republic. Watch the chat below.

BEHEMOTH recently shot a video for the song "Alas The Lord Is Upon Me", taken from the band's latest album, "Evangelion". The clip was produced and directed by Dariusz Szermanowicz and Grupa 13, which previously helmed BEHEMOTH's videos for "Ov Fire And The Void" and "At The Left Hand Ov God".

BEHEMOTH was honored in the "Album Of The Year (Heavy Metal)" category at this year's Fryderyk Awards, Poland's most prestigious music award ceremony. Awards were presented in over 20 pop, classical and jazz categories at the event, which was held on April 19 in Warsaw, Poland.

Tool Vocalist Almost Appeared On Apocalyptica

According to The Pulse of Radio, APOCALYPTIC's new album, "7th Symphony", contains a credit for former EVANESCENCE songwriter and guitarist Ben Moody in the liner notes. Although no songs by Moody appear on the record, APOCALYPTICA member Eicca Toppinen revealed to The Pulse of Radio that he did work with Moody — and almost worked with a superstar guest vocalist. "I did some songwriting with him," Toppinen said. "We wrote two songs together and one of those songs was really in the picture for the last minute. We had a great singer for that, but suddenly the singer's schedule didn't allow him to appear on the record, and it was Maynard (James Keenan) from TOOL. We still have those songs in the pocket, we might release those at some point."

Guest vocalists on "7th Symphony" include SHINEDOWN frontman Brent Smith, FLYLEAF singer Lacey Mosley and BUSH frontman Gavin Rossdale, who appears on the album's first single and video, "End Of Me".

APOCALYPTICA played in New York City on Tuesday night (August 24) to celebrate the CD's arrival and was joined onstage for the song "I Don't Care" by THREE DAYS GRACE frontman Adam Gontier, who sang the track on the band's 2008 release, "Worlds Collide".

The Finnish rock cello quartet's headlining tour pulls into Boston on Thursday night (August 26).

Down To Release New DVD In October

According to an August 24, 2010 tweet from the French branch ofRoadrunner Records, the label has set an October 11 French release date for "Diary Of A Mad Band", the long-awaited new DVD from DOWN — the acclaimed New Orleans band featuring CORROSION OF CONFORMITYguitarist/vocalist Pepper Keenan, drummer Jimmy Bower (EYEHATEGOD,SUPERJOINT RITUAL guitarist), bassist Rex Brown (ex-PANTERA), guitarist Kirk Windstein (CROWBAR), and vocalist Philip Anselmo(SUPERJOINT RITUAL, ex-PANTERA). Meanwhile, Amazon.com is listing an October 5 U.S. release date for the disc, which will feature footage ofDOWN members "tearing up Europe" — literally and figuratively — on their first European tour. This special DVD/CD collection contains over 130 minutes of live video material and a full, never-before-released concert. (Note: The CD is different from the DVD.)

In a July 2010 interview with AltsoundsWindstein stated about the forthcoming DVD, "It's basically our 2006 reunion tour in chronological order, when we decided to put the band back together and make it a proper band. It starts in Hamburg, Germany, which is the first show, then through toDownload, which actually wasn't the last show 'cause we also did one in Ireland, but other than that, it's in chronological order; it's one song from each of those shows. It's not like a PANTERA behind-the-scenes [collection of clips], with everybody cutting up and drinking, titties-everywhere kinda thing, because we could never top that 'cause Dime [late PANTERAguitarist 'Dimebag' Darrell Abbott] was a genius when it came to stuff like that. We made more of a Seventies-style rock and roll kind of movie like the ones I grew up watching, a lot more along the lines of 'The Song Remains The Same' by LED ZEPPELIN or 'Let There Be Rock' by AC/DC. It's a movie."

When asked about the legal reasons that caused the DVD delay, Windsteinsaid, "The way we look at it now is that we're not downing it, no pun intended, but we're so much better than that now, because when we got back together, Phil had only just gotten over back surgery, but it's a very good representation of where we were at then and it's a good rock and roll movie regardless."

DOWN bassist Rex Brown has fully recuperated from his fight with pancreatitis, a sudden inflammation of the pancreas which can have severe complications and high mortality despite treatment.

In October 2008, DOWN released a "deluxe edition" of its critically acclaimed third album, "Over the Under". The deluxe package, which was made available as a Best Buy exclusive, included a DVD with over 30 minutes of previously unreleased live performances and behind-the-scenes footage.

The album was released on Down Records in conjunction with Warner Music Group's Independent Label Group (ILG).

Filter First Week Sales Revealed

"The Trouble With Angels", the fifth studio album from FILTER, sold around 6,300 copies in the United States in its first week of release to debut at position No. 63 on The Billboard 200 chart.

FILTER's previous album, 2008's "Anthems For The Damned", opened with 13,000 units to land at No. 42.

"The Trouble With Angels" was released on August 17 via Rocket Science Ventures. Fans of the band's "Short Bus" and "Title of Record" will be ecstatic to hear Richard Patrick return to his industrial roots.

Rocket Science owner Kevin Day says, "I have known Richard for a good while and have been a fan of his music and the FILTER 'sound' since their first release. 'The Trouble With Angels' is exciting because it's a strong return to the sonically dark jet engine growl that FILTER invented and defined."

Produced by Bob Marlette (BLACK SABBATH, ATREYU, SALIVA), the album's debut single, "The Inevitable Relapse", features thundering chords and an isolated bass line that both conjure and modernize FILTER's signature sound.

"People think 'The Inevitable Relapse' is about addiction, consumption, and obsession, but they're wrong," says Richard Patrick. "It's a love song."

FILTER released a limited-edition seven-inch vinyl single, exclusively for the Record Store Day coalition of stores on July 6, featuring "The Inevitable Relapse" album version and a Rob Patterson 666 re-mix on the B-side.

Richard Patrick has taken "Angels" to the next level both lyrically and musically, employing some of the best in the business for the current tour. The live band features Patrick on vocals and guitar, guitarist Rob Patterson (KORN, OTEP), bassist Phil Buckman and longtime FILTER drummer Mika Fineo.
