More than any other metal band in history, being a hardcore Megadeth fan is truly a rollercoaster ride. This is a band with multiple duds in their catalog, and yet they always seem to rebound. Think about it, they’ve truly had some bad releases in their catalog. RISK was terrible. THE WORLD NEEDS A HERO wasn’t a lot better. And yet,

Depending on your perspective, Anthrax is either having a career resurgence or floundering at the end of their career. I’m stunned how many people actually didn’t like their last effort, FOR ALL KINGS. In these ears, that was the best effort of their career. What made it great, to me, was the mixture of crushing heaviness combined with some

When I first saw Sevendust’s new release was titled KILL THE FLAW, my initial thought was “what exactly is the flaw?” It leads you to wonder just what it is that caused this band to not break big, while bands with lesser quality catalogs like Disturbed or Korn had such crazy amounts of success at the same time. This

They don’t do it that often anymore, but there’s always excitement when Iron Maiden comes out with new music. Knowing that they are closing in on the end of their career, you really do end up hoping that when they go out for good, it will be with a bang. I think it’s universally agreed upon that

Probably more than any release in their history, Slayer came into releasing this album at a crossroads. This WAS the album that, in many ways, dictated if the band could continue on or if it was indeed time to drift off quietly to Hell. The loss of guitarist Jeff Hanneman and the removal of drummer Dave Lombardo had almost every Slayer

Geoff Tate’s falling out and subsequent two years of lawsuits, multiple versions of the same band and overall craziness in the press definitely tarnished a legacy that once seemed untouchable. Think about it. Even with over a decade of arguably bad releases (Q2K, TRIBE, AMERICAN SOLDIER, DEDICATED TO CHAOS), it wasn’t until the now infamous spitting incident and the

W.A.S.P. is one of those bands that has a ridiculously loyal fanbase...and good for them, actually. Doing THE CLASSIC METAL SHOW, we get shit on repeatedly anytime we say anything that is less than glowing about W.A.S.P., Blackie Lawless or any of the band’s former or present members. Oh well...comes with the territory, I guess. After what seems like quite a

THE WORLD IS OURS - VOL. 1

"We are Motorhead, and we play Rock N' Roll", Lemmy proclaims while casually walking out to the front of the stage in Santiago, Chile. We've all heard it so many times. What follows next is a no frills, straight forward onslaught of typical Motorhead madness...just like it's always been...throughout the entire length of most of our lives!

The interesting thing with Motorhead, that most bands could never get away with, is that they just plug in and do it time and time again and it continues to be excellent. Motorhead have started to rival Iron Maiden in the number of live releases they put out, but even more so than Iron Maiden, the material is always welcome. Unlike Iron Maiden, Motorhead don't feel the need to change things up a lot from release to release or tour to tour. Yes, they incorporate a few new songs here and there, but ultimately if you've seen Motorhead before, you aren't going to come away from this release surprised by anything. Same staging, same lighting, same songs...and same excellence. Motorhead are not just good at what they do, they are legendary at it, so there's no need to change anything up at all.

THE WORLD IS OURS is a 3 disc DVD and 2 CD set of simplistic Motorheadbanging that will please anyone that can name a single song other than "Ace Of Spades". Most of the great hits are featured here - "Killed By Death", "Ace Of Spades" and "Overkill" among others. The band mix in some new stuff that fits perfectly, like "Get Back In Line" early in the set. Overall, it's a typical rockin' Motorhead concert full of all the typical cliches this band is known for. The stage is sparce as always. The band reach out to the crowd for some cheap pop asking them if they want the band to play louder. Most importantly though, even at their advanced age, Motorhead continues to be one of the tightest bands in the history of touring. Lemmy, drummer Mikkey Dee and guitarist Phil Campbell just rage on songs like "Over The Top" and "Rock Out".

PITRIFF RATING - 90/100 - It's Motorhead. It's a well shot DVD. It's doubtful that a single second of retouching of the audio was done on this. Most importantly, each and every song just makes you want to throw that fist in the air and plant that middle finger square in the face of anyone telling you "no". Some bands just don't need all the extra bullshit to make them good. Motorhead again proves to be one such band! THE WORLD IS OURS is a great live release.
